Hello Auric,

I cannot see comp.lang.basic.visual.misc at the moment here:

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.basic.visual.misc/topics

The problem began two days ago and I wanted to check to see how the
rest of the thread is going. I don't know what to do about this but I
did send feedback to google who say they will not reply to the
feedback. I don't know if this message will get there.

Regards,

Peter.

Google is being Google. They do stupid stuff sometimes, and this is not the
only group affected.

I am no Web Guru and what I am saying may just confirm my ignorance
but here is what I am observing and just to elaborate on Peter's
Post...

The Usenet Google group is no longer displaying topics in iE. The
forum is still there but when you click the link for the topic the iE
browser renders a blank window.

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.basic.visual.misc/topics?hl=en&lnk

Navigating to the same URL with FireFox DOES properly display the
content of the topics.

As a test, saving the Source HTML of the apparently 'Blank' iE Topic
page will yield the following: iE -> Blank Firefox -> Renders web
page.

The FireFox browser Displays the following message:
"The old Google Groups will be going away soon." offering a hyperlink
inviting you to switch to the new Google Groups.

The new Google Group link takes you to a new server of the same
apparent content:
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups&hl=en#!topic/comp.lang.basic.visual.misc/Tjj-1HEWMS8

This new URL displays the content properly in both FireFox and iE.

Hello Friend aka Auric,

My access to CLBVM is now working again via Google. I was convinced I
had been locked out for good.I emptied cache's and reset my browser
that is Mac's Safari to unblock the impasse but to no avail. As a
another friend of mine from Massachusetts would say, never mind.
Some good news! The light is slowly dawning. You wrote:

Behind the scenes (hidden from the calling code) would be somewhat
like this,
if actually written out in VB:
duck.Attack dragon
-> dragon.Defend duck
-> If duck.ToHit > dragon.ArmorClass Then duck.GiveDamage dragon
-> dragon.TakeDamage duck.Damage
-> If duck.Damage > dragon.DamageReduction Then
dragon.Health = dragon.Health - duck.Damage
If dragon.Health < 1 Then dragon.doDeath
-> dragon.mName = "dead " & dragon.mName
End If

This block of code will help me see, if I can, why using a class in
the first place makes so much sense.Once I see that I will have it, I
think, maybe.

Regards,

Peter.

Irrespective of whether Google Groups is currently working or not I think
you might be better off ditching it altogether and using a standard
newsreader. Even Outlook Express will be far better than Google Groups. You
can use the Tools / Accounts menu of Outlook Express (or its equivalent of
Windows mail in Vista) to set up an account with one of the free news
services, such as news.eternal-september.org. That's the one I use myself,
and I think many others here also use it.

Hello Mike,

I had MT-Newswatcher installed on my Mac iBook that used to work very
well to access NG's but doesn't do so now. I agree that using Outlook
Express that I can actually download onto my iBook is the way to go
because I used Outlook Express on my PC. I thought the GUI was very
good.
By the way you might be very interested to know that to date I haven't
received a single item of spam even though my new gmail email address
is exposed when I post to CLBVM through google something that is drawn
to one's attention by google when posting.

Reagards,

Peter.

Except that, I have never been able to figure out how to print an
entire thread in any newsreader like I can in Google Groups. And most
newsreaders also mess with the order of threads (except for MesNews
which I use mostly). I want to see the threads in the order of the
first post not otherwise.

MesNews does have its shortcoming: very small limit on quoted lines,
unable to copy threads to an external file or print and entire thread.
It's French (i think and they don't seem to want to fix some of these
simple problems). If in the International section one posts in English
the reply is usually some foreign (to me) language.
But it does have nice Smileys. lol
